8 - Sunday, October 23, 1988 - North Shore News Families have a ball NORTH SHORE families are already making §ar- rangements to attend the third annual North Shore Winter Family Ball Dec. 18 at the Trade and Convention Centre at the Pan Pacific Hotel. By ROSEMARY PARRETT-KEEVIL Contributing Writer ‘I've been told that many kids that are away at school in Califor- nia and back east are phoning home to find out the date of the ball so they can make their airplane arrangements. They’ve had so much fun the other years that they don’t want to miss it. this Christmas,”’ said Jill! Flemons who is organizing the ball along with Diana Whyte for the North Shore Family Services Society. Flemons said the event has become a tradition for North Shore families, as has the enter- tainment. The band for the third year in a row will be Wager. This year the master of ceremonies will be media personality Fanny Keefer and the name of the mystery co- host has yet to be announced. Flemons says she hopes more than 700 people will turn up this year, ‘‘The ball has really grown from what it was in 1985 when there were four to five hundred people. “Last year there were six to seven hundred people and the first door prize was a trip to San Fran- cisco for two,’’ said Flemons. ‘‘We like to emphasize the family part of it.” Black tie attire is optional and the cost for the evening including dinner is $50 a person. All profits IMPAIRED Ardagh Hunter go to the North Shore Family Ser- vices Society. In 1986, the Winter Family Ball was considered a suc- cess, raising $8,000. Invitations to the ball have already been mailed out, but more are still available. For information contact 988-5281 or 926-3502.
