should look beyond the ob-
vious considerations of price,
appearance and style. When

says Andersen, consumers
should look for units that
perform as well as they look,
require litthe maintenance
and help conserve energy.

Look for windows that
have a wood sash and frame
or wood sheathed in vinyl.
Wood 1s used in well-made
windows because wood is a
natural insulator. “When
sheathed in vinyl, it offers an

extra measure of thermal
protection in addition to low
maintenance.

Glazing is another factor in
the performance of a win-
dow. Insulating glass, two

sulating air space between.
reduces heat loss.

By retarding the flow of ra
diant heat in winter and sum
mer, high-performacne
insulating glass performs
even better than triple

glazing.

Since the virtually invisi-
ble, microthin§ coating 1s

is nothing to operate, install
or clean. The coating on the

not crack, wrinkle or roll up
