Insight into Nicaragua

Nicaragua consists of ap-
proximately 60 black and
white silverprints taken by
Randall while living in
Nicaragua. The work
documents life in a country
torn by civil war and political
uncertainty, yet touches in-
sightfully on the personal and
the ordinary.

Nicaragua photo exhibit

Well known for her work

as poet, translator, editor,
political analyst and photo-
grapher, Margaret Randall

grew up in New Mexico, lived
in San Fransisco during the
50s and moved, in 1961, to
Mexico City.

From 1969 to 1981 she liv-
ed and worked in Cuba,
where she wrote a number of

books including ‘‘Cuban
Women Now,” ‘‘Breaking
the Silences’’ and ‘‘Spirit of
the People.”’

In 1981 Nicaraguan revolu-
tion and what followed in-
spired several recent books.

lives in Albuquerque, New
Mexico. This exhibition is the
first major show of her
photographs.

GALLERY OPENING

BERNADETTE Johnson recently opened a new
gallery and framing shop at 12th and Lonsdale. In
the store are originals, limited edition prints,
reproductions and exhibition pottery. Here, she
sits beside some of the works for sale in the
store’s spacious interior.
