RECENTLY I saw an adver-
tisement for ‘‘solid copper
cookware.’’ Should = con-
sumers be buying such
cookware? It appears from
the ad that the pots are bare
copper with no tin or steel
lining.

pots are not recOmmended
for cooking since they may
contaminate acidic food. For
example, using copper
cookware to prepare sauer-
kraut or rhubarb pie filling
could give the food a terrible
taste, and eating the food
may cause vomiting.

copper and zinc, but there
could be traces of other
metals too. An unlined brass
tea kettle should only be used

The Canadian Consumer
Magazine did a test on

test indicated that aluminum
or aluminum-based
cookware offers the best
performance.

of cumulative exposure and
therefore risk a higher chance

A final note — for a safe,

to 15 minutes sun exposure
initially, and gradually work
up to an hour a- day
