In separate actions, council voted to cancel a popular show so it could save $600, returned a bylaw to staff because it exceeded the federal government's ‘six and five’ restraint guidelines, and lectured the provincial finance minister on the need for fiscal responsibility. Council decided against a fireworks display this Halloween, because of the cost, estimated at $600. Alderman Frank Marcino said the City had already had a good fireworks display on May 2 to celebrate North Van’s 75th birthday. Council voted to scrap its proposed electrical in- spection fee revisions after a sharp-eyed Alderman Stella Jo Dean noticed that the revisions would increase the fees by eight per cent — two per cent higher than the federal wage and _ price guidelines. .
