natives Program to Paul Gallagher, Principal of the
College. The success of this program which meets the
needs of women looking outside the family to school or
work, prompted the report whiich will be sent to the
Ministry of Education and other colleges. Information

of women who have been
primarily family centred but
are now looking for alter-
natives, stimulated interest
on the part of both other
colleges and the Ministry of
Education which com-
missioned the report.

In the CAP, women assess
their current life styles and
set goals based on their skills
and interests. They research
possible career options and
improve their oral and
written comunications skills.

“Rearranging priorities
and reorganizing one’s life
takes time,” says Andrea
Kiss, “and so we hold our
classes two mornings a week
over 15 weeks. This gives
everyone enough time to
begin changing direction.
This program not only helps
women ready themselves for
the job market; it helps them
initiate a new phase in their
lives.”

Instructor Yetta Lees,
who teaches with Andrea
Kiss and Carol McCandless
in the program, documented
CAP in detail in the report
and is making copies
available to other colleges
throughout the province.

Capilano College will offer
CAP in North Vancouver
and Squamish again this
September and there is a
possibility of it being offered
through the Sechelt campus
in the near future.
