meuteal pattern around the rim.
Made in the “40s for the
tourist trade, and with stifl-
bright colours, this basket is
in pertect condition, [t's

The basket was made on Vancouver [Mand
by Gig Nuwechah-natth Nation (alse known
as the Nootka) in the traditional way, with a
technique used for hundreds of years,

The weave is a wrapped,
twined method. Always RS

are of cedar bark, bear grass ,
and natural dyes. They were
a source of pride and devo-
tion tor the weavers — they
received praise and prestize
from those who admired
their creativity, They wove
basketry onto anything avail-
able to them, including bot-
tles, shells, canes, antlers and
