The group’s next workshop is planned for Thursday, Aug. 25 at 1:30 p.m. in the West Vancouver Memorial Library. So far, the support group has been given access to Dr. Frank Martin’s office for typing and sec- retarial needs. James says similar groups have been formed in Nanaimo and Kelowna with great success, not only in public educa- tion about chiropractic treatment but also by adding their voices to political issues such as hospital ac- cess, better coverage for seniors and cooperation with physicians. James points out that all studies done to date show that increased utilization of chiropractors by the public helps reduce government in- surance costs, pressure on hospital staffs and lost time from work. For more information on the new Chiropractic Support Group, contact James in care of Martin's’ office at 4230-1425 Marine Drive, West Vancouver V7T [B9, or call 922-9768. "NORTH VAN UN DERCOAT! By PEGGY WHITTAKER Villager Reporter: Thirteen years ago, the British Properties resident and _ iron- worker, now 33, was working on a steel cable on the Lions Gaie Bridge when the weight of the loose cable pulled him over the side of the bridge. The cable, one end of which was attached to the underside of the bridge deck, had looped itself around his left leg, and jerked him to a stop 15 feet below the bridge. At the same time, Barnholden managed to grip the %”’ cable with one hand. Dangling in the air 90 feet above the ground, it was 20 minutes before he was returned to safety by co-worker Wayne Williams, who had himself precariously lowered by a crane to the point where he could grab Barnholden. Wayne Williams was subse- quently honored for his bravery, but for Barnholden it was the start of many problems. Plagued with shoulder, back and muscular troubles, Barnholden’s vitality steadily declined until he reached a low, eight years after the accident, where he says he ‘had lost the will to get out of bed.” It was then he was first in- troduced to Dr. Pauline Wolf and the healing power of acupressure. Acupressure is an oriental art that utilizes finger pressure on key points of the body to release ten- sion and improve circulation. Acupuncture uses the same con- cept, but stimulates the points with needles for more immediate results. After 25 sessions with Wolf, Barnholden says he felt completely cured, and doesn’t feel the ill ef- fects of his accident today. releases tension Barnholden subsequently entered the Acupressure Institute of Berkeley, California, for one year of intensive study, having also taken courses such as anatomy, psychology and physiology.
