20 ~ Sunday, August 25, 1996 - North Shore News IP bul ves ab WORK is progressing on construc- tion of the new North Vancouver RCMP building, located at the cor- ner of St. Georges and 14th Street. The following is a construction update provided by Dominion Company project manager Randy Scott. Dominion is building what is now known as The Gerry Brewer Building: The building is a joint project of North Vancouver City and District. It will house the North Vancouver RCMP detachment and the North and West Vancouver Emergency Program. The building. comprises two levels of below-grade parking, an office level at grade and two office levels above grade, resulting in roughly 70,000 square feet of building area and 73,000 square feet of below grade park- ing. In addition, the project will incorporate an at-grade park off 14th Stregy. To date about 7,000 m®* or roughly 19,000 tons of concrete have been placed on site through the work of about 40 carpenters, concrete. placers, concrete finishers, general laborers and reinforcing steel placers. This stage virtually completes all of the structural concrete for the building with the exception of some exterior planters for the building and ‘concrete work in the park. __In addition, approximately 550 tons of reinforcing steel has been placed and 20,000 square feet of concrete block. has. been installed, In total there are currently 85 workers on’ site representing concrete, masonry, structural steel, aluminum and glazing, steel stud and drywall, mechanical and electrical trades. Other trade workers are manufacturing components and materials for the building and will be on site in coming weeks. Passersby to the site recently will have noticed considerable activity and progress in the building construction. Aluminum fram- ing for the windows being installed, steel stud for the interior walls is progressing on the first nwo levels, as is exterior stud to sup- port the exterior “skin” of the building (composite aluminum panels), At the roof level, structural steel, columns, joists and beams have been installed, Below grade, all concrete block is proceeding for the jail cells and exhibit rooms. All plumbing, sprinkler and heating, ven- tilating and air conditioning equipment has been installed in the two levels below grade. All major electrical equipment has been installed in the building and is progressing up the building. Storm, sanitary and water services have been installed to the building. Over the next month the major building focus will be in completing the roof, exterior skin and exterior windows so that the build- ing can be made weather tight to the ele- ments. Once ;weather tight, the interior offices will be able to take shape as drywall, ceilings, carpet, painting and wallcoverings are tackled and millwork (counters, cabinets and display cases for example) is started. The building is scheduled to be complet- ed in March 1997, RCMP Supt. Jamie Graham (left) and project manager Rendy Scott surveyed.t construction site of the new police headquarters on Thursday. eee don't miss out on this specia jonce they're gone, they're gone, * Large 25°x151/2° cooking area * Self-cleaning anti-flare ceramic briquettes * Large, stalniess steel Super 8 Infinity burner for quick even heat Sure-Lite ignition system "> Heavy gauge tubular stea! .
