GROWING up as an
amputee can present some
hurdles, but Michael
Diering of North
Vancouver will overcome
them with the help of
other amputees in the The
War Amps Child Amputee
Program (CHAMP).

Michael, 5, was born miss-
ing part of his left arm and
enrolled in CHAMP soon
after. The first thing his fami-
ly learned about ‘The War
Amps was its philosophy of
amputees helping amputees,
said a War Amps news
release.

The immediate support of
other CHAMP farnilies while
Michael grows up helps him
and his parents realize that life
as an amputee is not a barrier
to living a full life.

As a champ, Michael
receives financial assistance
with the cost of artificial
limbs and travel expenses to
and from his rehabilitation
centre for fittings.
