(LGH) emergency depart- ment doctor was threatened and assaulted by a deranged man whe two months later killed Dr. Verne Flather. By Anna Marie D'Angelo News Reporter Ironically Dr. Michael O'Neil was working when the lifeless body of Verne Flither was rushed te the emergency department. “I didn't realize who he was. He was covered in blood with a (oxy- gen) mask on and people trying to do CPR on him,” said O'Neil. “Afterwards, one of the nurses vas cleaning the blood off his face and said, "Mike, this is Verne Flather’. * O'Neil found out shortly after that he had had disturbing dealings with Flather’s killer. “Gre of my thoughts was | could have easily been Flather,” said O'Neil. The ductor testified on Thursday, the third day of an inquest in Burnaby into the shooting of Flather on April 22, 1992. Flather was gunned down in front of his home at 431 East Keith Rd.
