Friday, April 2, 1999 — North Shore News - 21 my Sutherland picks up Adams’ piano Sarah Woodend Contributing Writer AT 2 p.m. Monday, Jane Kang found out she would be the first student in nearly a decade to play the piano that once belonged to Bryan Adams. Kang, a grade 12 student at Sutherland accondary school, played Everviling [ Doo 1 Do lt For You to an anxious crowd attending a Night of Music at the school Monday evening. Adams, a former student of Sutherland, donated his original piano to the school’s music program in 1986. The 1926 Estey tell inte disrepair after a few years of play and way sent off to be fixed. The piano was all but forgotten when school trustee, Barbara MacLellan, found out about it and made it her mission te find it, “The maa who had been hired to fix it just had ir at home...he kept putting off necting with me because it was in pieces,” MacLellan said. She managed to recover the piano and after campaigning for support and donations front parents, students, the schoul board and community members, she hired Mike Story to rebuild it. Story, who owns Story & Company Pianos on ‘Ferminal Avenue, said the baby grand was a challenge to rebuild because they didn't have the luxury of taking it apart themselves. “Taking a pile of rubbish, putting it back together again and making it sound good was gratifving, we're pleased,” he said.
