A SECTION of the North Shore’s 30-mile Baden Powell Trail in Cypress Provincial Park has been closed temporarily for repair. Provincial Ministry of Lands, Parks and Housing spokesman Mel Turner said Tuesday the one-mile section of the trail from the Hollyburn Peak trail to the downhill ski area of Cypress Bowl has not been closed permanently and replaced with an alternative route along a section of the Cypress Parkway, as feared by local hikers. “it has been closed for repair,” Turner said. ‘‘We just made the mistake of putting up the wrong sign.”” “Our Colieges... Turner said the trail closure sign, which advised hikers that the trail was closed and to ‘‘use the road"’, failed to indicate closure was due to repairs. Hikers attempting to use the trail recently had expressed con- cern that the trail section had been closed permanently without input from local mountain and outdoor recreation groups. West Vancouver resident David Macaree said he had been told the trail had been closed because it was “too dangerous’’ and was not get- ting enough use. Macaree, who leads parties of senior citizens on weekly hikes, said the explanations seemed odd celebrating because, in his opinion, the trail was far from dangerous. The trail section, which was listed as being in poor condition in a 1986 Baden Powell Trail corridor planning report, is scheduled to be reopened sometime in June or July 1988, according to Turner. Recommendations in that 1986 report stated that the “trail be- tween the downhill ski area and the junction with Hollyburn Mountain Trail...will be relocated to follow the west side of the road between the two ski areas. This will allow the installation of interpretive signs alongside the highway depicting the trail as part of the National Trail.” . SMOKING? The mind is capable of much more than it is given credit for. It can help you break out of long standing routines and allow you to take control and improve your life. I have used hypnosis for many years as a tool which helps ‘unlock the mind’s strengths and loosens the grip of old undesirable habits. Com- bined with counselling, it pro- vides a comprehensive ap- proach to problem-solving. In this way I have helped clients quit smoking, lose weight, reduce anxiety, sleep better and overcome a myriad of other problems. Hypnosis allows the sub- conscious to be more accessi- ble and open to suggestion. Often our troubles appear monstrous due to our con- scious attitude or perspective. f By reducing your anxiety about ‘the problem, and becoming relaxed, problems can be view- ed and approached from anew angle. They become less threatening and more manageable, Counselling aids hyprosis by RUTLEY ERAPIST AY ETERS OEE ERT SREY | effective toul to belp indivktuals e understanding the ‘actual pro- blem and changing your think- ing and feeling about it. There are often underlying causes for such common problems as overeating and smoking, stress, depression or poor self-esteem, for example. Once these causes are identified and dealt with, the bad habit can be overcome. Hypnosis has been misrepresented for centuries, often wrongly depicted as a trance-like state in which the hypnotist has total control over the other person. However, hypnosis is a natural state of mind where you are able to ac- cept and act upon suggestions more easily. Hypnotherapy allows you to take control by letting you see that you really do have many more options open to you than you first thought and it can help you approach change gladly and freely.
