Dear Editor:

I came here to North Vancouver
to retire in what | thought would
be a pleasant environment between
the mountains and the sea, where
my wile and [ thought we could
live out our remaining vears in
tranquillity.

Everything we own is sunk into
the home we purchased, makiag
additions that were costly but nes-
essary. Like almost every other
owner/resident in this street we re-
alized we'd made a mistake.

The street is on the boundary of
the District of North Vancouver
and the City of North Vancouver,
one side of it being the backyards
of those in 28th Street. There is
supposed to be a boulevard but
because some have incorporated
portions into their yards making
car-port pads and rough storage
for their unwanted vehicles, and
Others have just let weeds grow
wildly and dog droppings stink up
the undergrowth, the view is a

mess that in warm weather stinks
to high heaven,

Five to six families of raccoons
wander freely and when they're in
their lairs the rats come out. The
district rat catcher came and told
me to buy rat poison at my own
expense, but although the many
dogs that use the place as a giant
toilet are a nuisance, I don't want
to kill them.

I wrote to the mayors of both
the district and the city and even
had the city mayor answer my
complaint to the local CBC
phone-in. No one wants to do
anything.

Very soon we will see placards
being erected asking us to re-elect.
I think it’s high time we got rid of
them and got mayors and
aldermen in both areas who are
willing te help keep the North
Shore clean.
