Larry Watts scored the only goal of the first period. Hal Jenkins scored from the point early in the second, then Watts added his second midway through the period. A late goal by Guy Robinson completed the scoring. The Canadians, meanwhile, squeaked by the Old Buzzards 4-3 in an exciting contest. Jim Maurer opened the scoring carly in the first period. Later, Doug Eaton converted Steve Paquin's perfect pass, giving the Canadians a 2-0 lead. With time running out in the first period, Aimie Lehouillier lifted his own rebound over Terry Abrahams to cut the lead in half. Rick Poliquin restored the Ca- nadians’ two-goal lead from a scramble in front of the Buzzards’ net. But Ted Perry got one back for the Buzzards soon after. Mel Melnechenko gave Cana- dians some breathing space from another scramble, but a minute later Lehouillier was allowed to circle the net and come out in front to beat Abrahams from close range. The Buzzards pulled goalie Keith Major for an extra attacker in the final minute, bul did not get any good scoring chances. In other action, the Warriors came out flying against the Firefighters, and ran up a 5-0 first-period lead. Marksmen included Jamie Dean, Ted White, Bruce Murray and Ken Begg, who scored twice. Fred Baines got one back for the Firefighters before the period end- ed when he converted Ken Fran- cis’s face-off pass. In the second, Francis scored on a break away and Jim Klipa tipped in Gary Vigers’s pass from the blueline to narrow the margin to 5-3. But Dean combined with Mur- ray for a pretty goal seconds later to restore the three-goal margin. Vigers brought the Firefighters a little closer, and then quick goals by Frank Hawrychuk and Rick Goluboff tied the game. The Firefighters could have won in the last few minutes when they had several good scoring chances. Jim Maurer «f Canadians con- tinues to Jead the scorers with eight goals and 10 points. Aimie Lehouillier of Old Buz- zards is tied in points but has only five goals. Canadians’ John Davidson, out of action for a couple of months with a knee injury, continues to lead goalies with a 2.25 average. John Pain of Old Crows increased his league-leading penalty total to 14 minutes. The win improved the Bantams’ record to five wins and three losses with two games remaining in the regular season. Running back Paul Zucatts was the Argo workhorse as he lugged the ball 13 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns, The stingy Argo defence was brilliant, not only recording their first shut-out of the season but also producing 10 points. Outside linebacker Zac Gibson returned a pass interception 14 yards for a major score. While defensive linesman Dion Fatafehi and Sean Lambert each recorded a two-point safety touch.
