TWO NEW student aid pro-
grams — totalling $4.6 mil-
lion in the first year — were
announced recentiy by
Universities, Science and
Communications Minister
Pat McGeer and Education
Minister Jack Heinrich.

The new programs — a
loan remission program and
a scholarship program —
will reward scholastic
achievement and assist in
overcoming geographical
difficulties for British Col-
umbia students.

Under the Loan Remission
Program, all students with

of study since April 1, 1985
will receive a 25 per cent
remission. Students whose
homes are further than 50
kilometers from their post-
secondary institution will be
