B2 - Wednesday, June 23, 1982 - North Shore News SE Sport side-lines by Andy Fraser Even before the halls of learning have com- pletely emptied for the school for summer soccer There appear to be enough courses on this side of the water to cater to everyone’s taste, and even the Whitecaps are coming this way for a short three day course involving some of their big guns. Nobby Stiles, the coach of the reserve side and former England great will be leading Les Wilson, Alan Goad and Richard Dinnis July 23-25 for players from 8 to 16. The three hour per day sessions will take place at Grand Boulevard and Loutet South and will cost $25 for the six hours of instruction. Stiles, Wilson and Goad and Dinnis are all qualified coaches who are currently working with the Whitecaps development of young players, and all have many years of pro experience as players. According to_ the last time, it’s back to on the North Shore. Whitecaps, they will be keeping the enrolment limited. For registration information phone 985-0071 or 985-0761 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Beginning his third year in the coaching business, former Whitecap coach and player with Hibernian and Dundee of Scotland is Jim Easton. Jim will be operating out of Loutet South during July and is again being sponsored by the B.C. Dairy Foun- dation. These clinics are for the more advanced player who can move into a fairly in- tensive program for the week long sessions which take place from 5 to 8 p.m. to avoid the heat of the day. Always a popular school, Easton keeps the classes down to about 16 youngsters Back to school again in each and he takes full control of the sessions. Th.~ school too has a limited enrolment’ with registration taking place at Skyline Sport on West 16th at a cost of $35 for 15 hours of instruction. In addition to his playing and coaching expenence with the pros, Jim is also a certified CSA coach who assisted in scouting with the World Cup team and is currently a scout in the NASL. And while sull on the subject of the Easton's it should be pointed out that Jim Easton Junior left last week for Tampa Bay and Rowdies. Drafted by the Rowdies in the spring, young Easton will be playing the Rowdies reserve team during the NASL season then will most likely be taking off for Sau Paulo, Brazil for the winter where he will be traiming with the powerful team which has contributed six players to the’ Brazilian national team. Sao Paulo and Tampa Bay have a working ‘relationship’ which could pay dividends to the Florida club in the future. Young Easton has played with the B.C. Under 18's and wus a member of the Lynn Valley organization and Sutherland Sabres. Vice President of the Rowdies, Francisco Marcos, is high on the Scottish born Easton, and feels he has a solid chance of making the first team next season after his time with tic Reserves and the Sao Paulo organization. In any case, Marcos and the Rowdie organization will hang on to young Easton, and their other U.S. born draft choices, for 18 months in order to give them the chance to fit into pro ranks. Marcos is_ enthusiastic about the newly formed reserve system. It includes the other Florida teams plus many other top teams in the area including an ASL franchise from Atlanta. He claims that they are receiving strong media support and drew 2,000 supporters to a recent game. Things are looking up in Florida for the Rowdies and for Jim Easton Jr. Swing into a swell sporting summer NOW THAT regular school is out, youngsters have a chance to attend one that promises to be more fun — a Tennis Academy.
