Effective May 3 adult peak fares (for those travell- ing between 5:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) will mse from 5O cents to 65 (up 30 per cent) while the 10 - 3 bus mders and those travelling after 7:00 p.m. will suffer the highest increase, from 40 cents to S5 (a 37.5 per cent increase) Student fares will be rais- ed from 30 to 35 cents, children and seniors will pay 30 cents up from 20 (up 33 per cent) and the hourly bus rental rate will be $60 per hour instead of $50. By comparison, the adult fare on metro buses will mse 1o 75 cents from 60 cents on Apnil 12, an increase of only 25 per cent. As council members pointed out, the West Van rate increases are as high as 49 per cent greater than those on the metro buses. Council stressed its firm belief in the peak/off peak system.
