LGH still missing voters for meeting Hospital society meets tonight By TERR Y LAVENDER With only hours to go before the annual meeting of the North and West Vancouver Hospital Society, 2,700 members of the society still haven't renewed their memberships. Despite a Lions Gate Hospital campaign to flush the missing members out of the bushes, very few people have renewed their mem- berships recently, says LGH Assistant Administrator Tom McMillan. Last year more than 5,000 people joined the society, which elects members to the LGH board of directors. But so far this year only about 2,000 of those people have renewed their memberships. Membership in the society has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years as pro- and anti-abortion forceS have wrestled for control of the hospital board. However, there are fears that last year’s voters have lost interest because the election tonight cannot be decisive. There are currently four anti-abortion or pro-life directors on the 17 member board. And with only four positions open tonight, pro-: life forces can't hope to gain control of the board, which sets hospital policy. McMillan says LGH is prepared to sign up all 2,700 members tonight if necessary. “We're gearing up to be able to accomodate this whole number,” he told the News. The meeting will be held at the North Vancouver Recreation Centre. Registration for people renewing their memberships will begin at © p.m. and the meeting will start at 7:30. The ace arena, curling rink and Centennial Theatre have been reserved for the meeting. The meeting itself will be West Van police block off party Bus vandalized West Vancouver Police -resorted to roadblocks Saturday night and arrested seven people. to retain control over a rowdy party in the Eagle Harbor area. There will be buses from the north side of Eaton's at Park Royal at 6:30 and 6:50 p.m. and ‘on demand’ service from the LGH parking garage from 6 p.m. onward. But McMillan is worried that the expected crowds just won't materialize. “Its concerning us because we're just not sure whether this is caused by apathy or what,” he says.
