Little League baseball has released the dates of their 1981 tournament which will ran from July 11 through to July 25. Kicking off the tour nament July if is Mt. Seymour against Capilano followed by Lynn Valey and Howe Sound, then J.C. Rotary against West Van. On Sunday, July 12, Forest Hills takes on Highlands followed by Cypress Park taking on the winner of the first gamc. All the games inthis tourney are being played in Squamish. FIREFIGHTERS SLOW PITCH CHAMPIONS The West Vancouver fire- fighters, who are sponsored by International Land Corp. in West Van, won 9 out of 11 games played in a recent Slow Pitch Tournament. The annual tournament, which has been expanding each .year, was played in Kelowna, June 17 - 20. Eighteen teams were cn- tered, from Kamloops to Vancouver Island. Three days of tournament play qualified them for the playoffs on the Saturday. They played an cxcellient defensive game throughout the tournament with only 21 runs scored against them in all games. The Firefighters met North Van in the quarter finals and won 9 - 0, with the help of 3 double plays made by third baseman Butch Lima. Dillingham forced the final by downing Eagles 13 - 3 in a previous game behind the three hit pitching of Korm Trieu. Doug McCartney received the win for Eagles in the final. In the playoffs leading up declare under aggregate. Mike Kennedy placed second in the boys 8 and under back stroke. Another runner up was Susan Buchkowsky in the girls 9-10 aggregate following her first in free, ‘and second in back and fly.
