Driving a Lola T-440 in the very competitive Formula Ford class, Mahood scored his sixth victory in ten starts last weekend at Spokane, Washington. With 201 points he has broken the old 1976 record by 20 points, and leads the second place car of Ed- monds (Wa.) dmnver Ed Freutel by 74 points. Two races still remain in the series, but he has amassed enough points to wrap up the overall senes championship. Mahood has opted to miss these two races in order to contest the Canadian National Championships at Mosport, Ontario on Sep- tember 14 and to run in a support race at the Canadian Grand Prix at He Notre Dame (Montreal) on Sep tember 28. The win at Spokane was hard fought as Mahood held off a number of challenges from the other 18 cars in the field who were scrambling to keep up the pace. He was particularly effective in darting past some of the lapped cars late in the race and maintaining his small lead. His margin of victory was about 10 seconds at the finish. At age 24 Mahood appears to be a prime candidate for the professional Formula Atlantic senes which visits Westwood every year.
