SKI SCENE This is National Ski Week in Canada, an event heralded locally by the B.C. Ski Council with a Kick Off Day on Grouse Mountain. last January 17th. Grouse Mountain] cer tainly did its best to show the various media represen- tatives on hand for Kick Off Day just how easy it is to go skiing. The Spectacular flight to the top of Grouse via the Super Skyride quickly put us in the mood to try out the super snow on the --well. groomed slopes. Especially when we were invited to try out the rental - equipment at the handy Grouse Ou brief five minutes I found myself completely outfitted with everything from boots to ski poles. The boots were most - comfortable, being exactly the same size and model as I customarily wear. The skis were a titch shorter than my old 190’s the poles good quality, just the right _ length. Although I had never actually used the much touted Spademan ~ bindings before, I quickly discovered they lived up to all their . promises. Mexican — volieyball team playing in B.C. The University of Mexicos Mens Volleyball Team will have their second Lower Mainland Tour January 22 to 27. The team, which is one of the top teams in Mexico, will defend its Championship title in the University of Victoria International Championships January 21, 1979. A sixteen team tour nament with most of the top teams in Canda will be trying to take the Championship title away from the Mexican team. The team will travel first to Nanaimo where they will play the University of Victoria Vikings, Monday, January 22. From Nanaimo, they will travel to Maple Ridge whore they will play the Canadian Champions — B.C. Olympics.
