Passed away peacelulty in his 89th year in Royal inland Hospi- tal, Kamloops, Monday, October 16, 2000 after a strake. Son of John Ratph and Sarah Aurillia (Ayers) Hoopfter of Holbein, Sas- katchawan. Survived by his sis- ters Lola (Albert) Turner of Ouncan and Olive Tumer of Elkhorn, Manitoba; son Gary (Martha) of Pritchard, B.C. and daughter Jane (Rober); grand- children Mycheie (Rick) and Michael (tuanne) of Victoria; great-grandchildren Britanny. ‘fachary, Brandyn. and Kia. Pre- deceased by his wives Vera Meintoch (died 1972) and Peggy Barr Izod (died 1997), his son Harvey (died 1993), and siblings Charies, Leon, Laura, Iva and Archie. Bill grew up in a large tarm femity and was, as so many of his age, marked by the De- pression. He married Vera in 1935 and not Jong after moved to the West Coast where their Children were bom. He lived and worked on the North Shore for ovar 40 years, as a machinist for Yarrows Burrard Dry Dock. He as a proud 50 year member of the TAMAW. An avid gardener, baorticultural judge, and dahiia hy- bridizer, he was a devoted mem- ber of the Vancouver Dahlia Soci- siy and active in the West Van- couver, Lynn Valley and Saltspring Island garden clubs. His passion was growing dahlias for exhibition and, with his son Gary, he continued to grow dah- fias until this autumn. He particu- larly loved the weeks of agricul- tural exhibition at the PNE. He volunteered in his church (proud to be an Elder) and with ihe North Shore Little League (proud of his part in buildi tion dalipark}.
