The 15 Greater Vancouver Regional District parks are for all seasons, offering just as many at- tractions in the fall and winter as } in the spring and summer. “.. Visitors can take the whole family to discover forest trails, or they can walk along near- ly deserted river banks. For those who are attracted to mountainous terrain, Lynn Head- waters or Capilano River regional parks on the North Shore both of- fer breathtaking mountain scenery. Capilano, the most popular in the regional parks system, has breathtaking scenic canyon trails, running from the Cleveland Dam at the top of the park right to the mouth of the river at First Nar- rows. A federal fish hatchery is a major attraction in the park. Lynn Headwaters is a new, 9,800 acre recreational area just now being opened up by the GVRD. It has seven miles of trails at present with more being built. At Belcarra Regional Park, located on Indian Arm near Port Moody, a major attraction is marine life where visitors can ex- plore tidal Mats, go scuba diving or stroll on a long wharf that offers spectacular water views. And there are miles of trails for hiking, a playground for youngsters and an open playfield far tossing a frisbee. A few miles away is Minnekhada Regional Park in the northeast corner of Coquitlam, which is 430 acres big, with a marsh alive with wildlife. Minnekhada trails fead to a high knoll that overlooks the Lower Mainland, and Minnekhada Lodge, a country retreat, is open to the public on the first and third Sunday of each month from | to 4 p.m. during the fall and winter months. In Maple Ridge, Kanaka Creek Regional Park has waterfalls, trails and footbridges as well as a Save- the-Salmon hatchery which is open daily from 2 to 3 p.m. If you would like more informa- tion about GVRD parks phone 432-6350.
