Ernie Crist who, with a mstraight face, had ‘suggested that trucks carrying out log- ging operations for che Greater Vancouver Water Districe (GVWD) might be accelerating the deterioration fof Capilano Road and fm Lillooet Road —:the two ma watershed access points in the a district. While fm Transportation Highways approved the weight restriction on Lillooet, it did not on § Capilano because the provice had contributed to Bthe upgrading of the road through Ministry of js Municipal “affairs revenue Sesharing program. the Ministry of and However, the GVWD states that only four logging- truck loads of timber were removed from the Capilano watershed via Capilano Road in 1996 and that no use was made of Lillooet Road. There has been no clearcut- ting in the GVWD watershed for two years while environ- mental studies and inventory updates have taken place. But, irrespective of what- ever decision is made on the future of logging operations in the watershed, the GVWD has agreed that “maintenance activities” may take place. Ron Van Oord, Superintendent, — Watershed Operations, is estimating that 110 logging truck loads of “sal- vaged amber” will be trucked out of the watershed in 1997. Munvoe asked Mayor Don Bell, the district’s representa- tive on the GVWD commit- tee, to request such an action.
