However, the GVWD
states that only four logging-
truck loads of timber were
removed from the Capilano
watershed via Capilano Road

in 1996 and that no use was
made of Lillooet Road.

There has been no clearcut-
ting in the GVWD watershed
for two years while environ-
mental studies and inventory
updates have taken place.

But, irrespective of what-
ever decision is made on the
future of logging operations

in the watershed, the GVWD
has agreed that “maintenance
activities” may take place.
Ron Van Oord,
Superintendent, — Watershed
Operations, is estimating that
110 logging truck loads of “sal-
vaged amber” will be trucked
out of the watershed in 1997.

capacity in order to abide by
the district’s weight restric-
tion.

Coun. Janice Harris asked
what was meant by “salvaged
timber” and Couns. Glenys
Deering-Robb = and Pat
Munroe suggested an inde-
pendent observer should be
present when trees are seiect-

ed for salvage operations.

Munvoe asked Mayor Don
Bell, the district’s representa-
tive on the GVWD commit-
tee, to request such an
action.

Meanwhile, the district
will ask the municipal solici-
tor whether it has any more.
power to control the use of
Capilano Road, since the
province has off-loaded the
care and maintenance of arte-
rial routes, like Capilano
Road, to municipalities.
