Road Police have identified the man as 40-year-old Eart Morse of Alberta. According to Sgt. Barry Nickerson, evidence points to suicide as the cause of death. By Colin Thomas Contributing Writer Millar passed away Dec. 8 suf- fering from heart and lung ail- ments. In 1984 he helped establish the recreation advisory council in North Vancouver. In 1991 he was made a life KEITH MILLAR ... dedicated his tife to local amateur sports. member of the British Columbia Soccer Association (BCSA). “He was a great server to soc- . cer,” said BCSA technical director Alan Churchard. “He was recog- nized by his peers as a guardian of the game.” Tom Walker, community ser- vices coordinator of the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, said Millar was made a lifelong member of the commis- sion “in recognition of his commit- ment to local soccer and his leader- ship qualities on the commission.” Walker said the commission, which Millar was a founder, was vital in North Vancouver’s success- ful bid for the 1996 B.C. Winter Games. Millar has a huge list of organi- zational and managerial accom- plishments in soccer. He began coaching in 1967. In 1972 he established the North Shore Girls Soccer Association and coached until 1989. Millar established the North Shore Intermediate men’s soccer league in 1977. In 1980 he became president of the Vancouver Metro Soccev League and helped it become the Lower Maintand’s senior winter- circuit, relegating the Pacific Coast Soccer League to summer action. Millar, along with current presi- dent Gil McGarva, helped forge the Metro premier league into one of the top amateur soccer leagues in Canada. Millar also had strong links with Little League baseball in North and West Vancouver. He began coaching Little League in 1962 with Cypress Park and was president of that league from 1966 to [970. Millar was born in Colorado, By the Second World War he was liv- ing in England and became a pilot with the Royal Navy. in 1948 he moved to Vancouver where he and his brother estab- lished Sentinel Heating.
