ON THE OTHER HAND

NORTH SHORE MPs are
showing the rest of the coun-
try how things should be
done, They are not wimps.

A couple of months ago the fury
of the Vancouver media descended
on West Van's Herb Grubel because
he had a few words to say about the
money wasted on Indians. He said it
did neither them nor us any good.

How crass! How crude! How
honest!

In Vancouver his critics puffed up
like angry turkeys.

Now we have North Van's Ted
White in bate over that monument a
bunch of fems want to put up in
honor of the 14 girls in Montreal
murdered by a tunatic.

As you probably know, its
inscription will read, in part:

“In memory, and in grief, for all
the women murdered by men...”

White objects both to the inscrip-
tion and to the fems’ wanting
$33,000 out of Ottawa for the memo-
rial.

So do I. If they want inoney let
them hold a bake sale.

Radical fems are always hot on
“sexual discrimination” in the uni-
versities and anywhere else they can
show their cliws. So why are they
discriminating in this monument
nonsense? Because they suffer from
ideological blindness and because
most of them hate men.

Imagine what a fuss there would
be if a bunch of men wanted funds
for a memorial “to all the white men
murdered by blacks.” (And there
have been plenty.)

indignation meetings would be
held from coast to coast. Television
anchors wouldn't be able to get to
their mikes fast enough to deliver
sermons on racism. Headlines would

burst into flower like fireweed.

Why, then, have thes heen so dis-
ereet in this cise”

Because they support such
garbage. that’s why. Just as they
winked and nodded about penis-bob-
bing in the Bobbit case.

White 1s fighting waste on other
fronts, too. He doesn’t want to be a
rubber stamp for giving grant money
to all and sundry.

What will the fellow think of
next? Sending peacekeepers to
Quebec?

Applications for federal grants
come before local MPs. In the past.
they have been approved without a
second thought and sent on to
Ottawa. [enough votes were
involved, that is.

Not this time. White and bis com-
mittee went through thent with a fine
tooth comb and turned a lot down,
He saw no reason, for instince, why
student jobs should be funded at
$13.75 an hour. He thought $9.50
would be more appropriate.

The recommendations were sent
to Ottawa, whereupon the Liberals
and their civil servants ignored them.
The applicants are getting what they

wanted, courtesy of Lloyd Axworthy

and Co.

Axworthy is the guy in charge of
revamping the social services.
According to the press he wants to
tighten up on them.

But 1 don't believe it. In
Trudeau's time Axworthy couldn't
give away our money fast enough.

He wept over immigrants and
scroungers and dropped tens of mil-
lions into his home town of
Winnipeg. So I'll believe he’s
changed his spots when { see the new
spats.

As for that monument, it'll be
interesting to see what happens about
the $33,000.

Aren’t people being hauled
before human rights councils on
account of “discriminating? And
aren't the monument fems discrimi-
nating against men? And aren't the
Liberals supposed to be big on “equi-
ty” and “fairness” of all kinds? So
how can they approve such a grant?

The whole thing bulges with
barminess. Men were not permitted
to compete in the design for the
monument because —- according to
Alexandra Griffith — a male winner
might later have been found to have
abused a child.

No woman has ever abused a
child. of course. {t just happens that
most infanticide cases involve
women.

This business raises other ques-
tions.

Why should public corporations
be going around giving away public
money!

B.C. Hydro gave $16,000, That
was probably Mare Eliesen’s deci-
sion, he having been the NDP*s
chairman of Hydro and a socialist
hack fram way back,

The mis-named Ministry of
Women’s Equality over in Victoria
gave $10,000, which is all the more
reason to put them out of business
after the neat election.

Three cheers for Ted White. Ain't
it amazin’ that we now have some
MPs who actully reflect public
opinion?

Imagine what would have hap-
