Soccer squad wins THE NORTH Shore played host this past weekend to the annual Premier AA and Challenge B Provincial youth soccer champi- onship finals between the Coastal and Interior Cup winners. Games were played at Boule- vard, Loutet, and Kinsmen Parks with the girls finals on Saturday and the boys finals on Sunday. In the girls competition, three North Shore girls teams qualified. Coast A side champions North Shore Metros (U-18) and North Shore Amazons (U-13) were un- challenged in their age groups. Metros will now compete in the National Championships in Ot- tawa this November for girls 14 and older. Coast B side champions North Shore Dragons (U-11) were Spuraways victorious TWO NORTH Shore U-12 premier teams met at the Central Okanagan Youth Soccer Associa- tion Tournament in Kelowna recently when the West Van Spuraways played the Mount Seymour Royals. With many of the best players from both sides going onto the North Shore Metro team next season it was the last time the boys would play together. Both teams won all their pre- liminary games to advance to the final, played in wind and heavy rain. The Spuraways offence was frustrated by the Mount Seymour players and a 0-0 score forced the contest into overtime. West Van's Ryan McKenzie fi- nally broke the Mount Seymour defence when a ball kicked by him from midfield bounced over the reach of the Royals goalie. Curtis van Drimmilen and Ali Khasfia each added a goal to win the tournament for West Van with a final score of 3-0. defeated 4-2 in overtime by Cen- tral Okanagan All-Stars in a see- saw game at Kinsmen Park. All- Stars’ Nicole Shepard opened scoring in the first half. Catherine Judd and Sam Audley put the Dragons ahead in the second half. Nicola Barton tied the game with minutes remaining to push the game into overtime. After many breathtaking saves in overtime by Dragon’s keeper Angela Pelleirn, Central Okanagan capped the game with pretty goals from Nicola Barton and Debbie Hawley.
