GYMNAST ELITE, AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS GYMNASTS FROM the Flicka Gymnastics Club in North Vancouver won four cut of the eight titles at the B.C. Elite and B.C. Age Group Championships held at BCIT in Burnaby on the weekend. At the national level, Marlies Ernst and Briony Lecky were one and two in the junior division with totals of 35.733 and 32.900, respectively. Between them they won the four events, Ernst winning vault 8.70, uneven bars with 9.03 and beam 8.87 and Lecky taking the floor exercise event with 9.20. In the women’s open division, Jenny Campbefl and Peula G'Froerer finished jirst and second with 35.566 and 34,600 as totais, and they also won ali the events. G’Froerer took the vault event with 8.93 and bars with 8.77 while Campbell was the winner on balance Seam 9.03 and floor with 9.37. Jessica Malach, 13, vas sixth with 33.267. Seniors Aparna Ray and Jody Jacques, both 15, were third and fourth with totals of 68.750 and 66.816. Seniors compete both compulsory and op- tional exercises. In the young national sovice division, Angela Orange and Leah Augustine were the silver and bronze medalists with totals of 35.666 and 35.033 respectively. Orange won vault 9.23 and floor 9.40. Teresa Pehar, 12, who won the balance beam event with 8.70 was fourth overall with 34.734 followed by Liss Nakano, 12, with 33.667. The elite gymnasts will attend the Canadian Cham- Ppionships being held in Halifax in May. Jody Jacques and Jenny Campbell wili also travel to Calgary at the ‘end of April to compete in the Western Canadian Championships. Five Flicka gymnasts from the B.C. Age Group Championship will also travel to Calgary. Karen Gill, who won the Argo girls title with a total of 35.250, and also won vault 9.05, bars 8.80 and floor 9.00, will lead the Argo team along with Meredith Schachtel who was fifth with 33.950. Chiefs Jordie Walker opened the scoring four minutes inio the first period, followed by a goal by Mike Day for a 2-0 Chiefs lead. Thompson's time of 2:52.2 qualified him to compete in the National Championships to be held later this year.
