Eighteen-hour days aren’t uncommon for National Ballet
artistic director Reid Anderson, but he is revelling in his
new challenge. Above, and seen through a screen of

n his new job as artistic direc-

tor of the National Ballet,

Reid Anderson is accustomed

to 14-hour days, seven days a
week. His gruelling schedule
didn’t allow him to come home to
the North Shore for Christmas, so
Narth Shore News reporter Evelyn
Jacob spoke with him at his office
in Toronto. The following are
some of his musings:

was an opportunity | couldn’t pass
up. I’ve worked with them before
— it’s an excellent and fantastic
company. So, | was in an all-win

to the National: “It was very
smooth, there were no big prob-
lems. The National is a very big
company, a format that I'm used

organization is so big and vast and
there are so many people working
in different departments. But you
also have more people to help
you. Ballet B.C., on the other
hand, was more pioneering.”

On his reputation as a dancer's
disector: “] try to work closely
with the dancers at the National.
With Ballet B.C., ! worked with
them every day. Here, | teach a
few times a week as well as
coach.”’
