Collins creates ‘false impression’ ~Dear Editor: are uals I. am. writing to disabuse your : . readers of the utterly false’ impres- : -» + sions’.created” by Doug Collins in : 7 his column of. Oct. 25. - -o “ The column is cleverly crafted to give the impression that the ranks -. of the Capilano Riding Association ‘with both the government and Mary Collins. I can assure you, as someone who has sat on that association for 10 years, ; nothing could be further from the truths! ; . “vB yyould: like [to Set- the’ record straight with some specifics: vv Mr, Collins gives the impres- sion-in his article that I was retir- ing as. president over some dissatisfaction with the party or Mary Collins. That is wrong and | told. Mr. Collins that in a recent telephone call. I am not’ running again simply because I think it is time someone else took over as executive presi-. _ dent with some new ideas and new energies. That, in my view, is how an organization continues to- be vital. -infested with. dissatisfaction _ that © ¢ Mr.. Collins suggests that. the troops ‘in the riding association ‘are “unhappy”? and’ “‘demoralized.”? . That suggestion is also false. The facts are that the-executive teturn- .ed.at the annual: general meeting _ this.month-consists of a total of ‘eight executive members who were on.tht.-board last year. That is two-ihirds of our total board of 12 sitting members. That is hardly an expression, of dissatisfaction i in my: view. The fact is that our riding association and its ‘executive are in. ‘excellent shape. Our financial situ-. ation has never been: better and we could, if required, fight an election tomorrow with the reserve funds on hand. While there is always dissatisfac- tion in any political party with cer- tain of the policies of government (1 suspect this situation prevails for Liberals and NDP as well), never- theless on any objective viewpoint I think this is the best government that Canada has had in decades. Furthermore, I think our MP is doing. a fine job and will be re- elected. Rick Wentland North Vancouver People watching us while we're working.
