Open Letter to School Trustees,
School District No. 45,
West Vancouver:

The executive of the West Van-
couver Parents’ Association wish
to protest your decision to reduce

the provisional 1986-87 budget by

$724,769.

As the guardians of. the educa-
tion system in this district, you
have, in cur opinion, neglected
your responsibility to the children,
teachers, parents and citizens of
West Vancouver.

Your provisional budget was not
.an irresponsible or excessive’ price

would maintain and assure no fur-
ther deterioration in the quality of

vince. If education is important to
this district, we must encourage
support for and improvement of
the public education system in
British Columbia.

There is a price attached to qual-
ity education, and we believe tax-
payers of West Vancouver should
not be oblivious to that fact. It is
your job as trustees to convince the
taxpayers that the cost is justified.

Your misguided attempt to serve
your constituents’ needs by short-
changing our education system is
folly. Where is your foresight? The
future success of our province de-
pens upon today’s students and
the quality of education must be
top priority for everyone.

We are very disappointed in
your lack of commitment to our
education system and the needs of
the students in West Vancouver.
Your decision to cut the school
budget arbitrarily, not knowing
which programs or services such a
‘cut would affect, was an irrespon-
sible act for public trustees of our
system to make.
