Driving with the automatic overdrive is little different

will stay in second or third all the way up to 55 mph. Then, if
you ease back on the pedal a little, you will slip into over-
drive.

And when you are in overdrive, you can apply a moderate
amount of power and still stay in top, ra
back into third. So if you need to give a little extra gas to get
up a slight hill, you can do so and still stay in overdrive.

Mechanically speaking, this transmission is designed to
keep service and maintenance to a minimum. All components
are built into the transmission housing, shielding them and
reducing the possibility of leaks. The bands are made to such
close tolerances tht they should never need adjustment. The
oil filter is a dacron-felt type designed to last the life of the
transmission.

The housing is a huge aluminum casting and even in-
cludes the valve body passages instead of having them in a
separate bolt-on jece. Allin all, you really do have: ‘another
better idea from Ford.”
