EE mailbox ee orbid all backyard burning Dear Editor: Your April 14° edition carried a letter from a Mr. A. Hutchinson concerning burning in residential areas. He referred to an earlier letter by a_ resident who appeared at City council claiming that smoke from the burning caused breathing difficulties for some people, and _ he described this as “a lot of nonsense”. It is too bad that there are unthinking, uncaring people like Mr. Hutchison around. He is no doubt one of the many inconsiderate residents of the North Shore who think it is their God given right to start a smudge Stoker Farm ideal RV park Dear Editor: Stoker Farm is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of property in North Van- couver, and it saddens me, and I am sure, many other citizens of the North Shore, to see it becoming neglected and overlooked in the overall plan for this area. My husband and I have travelled many miles in our camper van and enjoyed staying in so many RV parks thru’out North America. A lot of them were right in the residential part of the city we were visiting, and were run efficiently and with no disturbance to the surrounding homes. WHY couldn't it be the answer to the Stoker property? Just think of the drawing card it would be for the North Shore. The only one now is so packed ALL year, how many do they have to turn away? Water and electricity are already there, portable bathrooms could be put in place, and it would give much needed work to people to put in the individual services and flat surfaces needed to level the RVs. The barns and out- buildings would be able to stay, for the return of horses, and the big house could make a great restaurant and craft building, with lounge and tourist info. This type of operation ts needed very badly in the Lower Mainland: it’s shameful that we don't provide it. I do wonder if the hotel and motel operators are keeping it out. So Mr. Frank Mormis at City Hall, what about it? Why not and when can we begin? Mrs. B.R. Don't be concerned with the fact that people with allergies or asthma in fact have breathing difficulties, to the point where some people are forced to take oxygen and move out of their homes for hours unul the smoke passes. Don’t be bothered by the fact that for some people, even a few whiffs of smoke leave their nostrils and sinuses plugged for hours. Hutchison is correct when he refers to pollution from all sources being’a problem in society; he is dead wrong when he downplays the effect of backyard burning, both from its. overall negative effect on the air quality in the city and its particular effect on those people directly in line with it. It’s time that the North Shore municipalities woke up and in the interests of everyone passed a total prohibition against backyard burning. Stephen A.
