37 - Wednesday, June 4, 1986 - Nocth Shore News The air cadet experience there’s just no life. like it THE 103 THUNDERBIRD Air Cadet Squadron of North Vancouver, originating in 1947, has at present a member- ship of 60 active teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19. The group meets every Wednes- day from September to June. A large, widely experienced staff of adult officers and civilian in- structors provides challenging leadership for the numerous activi- ties of the squadron. Activities. include technica! skills, outdoor activities, a model-making club, photography, marching band music, a com- petitive drill team, a firing ‘range program, gliding, power flying, community activities, citizenship, the _ gold-silver-bronze Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, summer camps, scholarships, exchange programs and various competi- tions. The Air Cadets is a non-profit organization, which is. funded through volunteer cadet activities such as bottle drives, car washes, tag days, garage sales and dona- tions. A committee of parents ‘ad- ministers these funds. . During the past year the cadets . took a four-day trip to McChord Air Force Base in. Washington State, a three-day trip to CFB Comox, as well as a weekend bush survival exercise, a weekend ski outing to Grouse Mountain and several out-of-town rifle competi- - tions. The cadets recently held their, annual inspection. The cadet year . will wind up with the annual mess dinner’ being held tonight (Wed- a nesday).
