Inaugurated by the North Shore branch of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers Association (BCRM- TA) in the name of a col- league who died earlier this year, the new award recog: nizes a senior-level student with high standing in the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. Lucille Lirtle taught piano for many years on the North Shore before succumbing to illness in May. Yuki Sugiyama, 14, is the award’s first recipient. The Grade 9 Windsor student was awarded First Class Honours in his Grade 9 piano studies last June. His piano teacher is Joyce Jackson of North Vancouver. Sugiyama was presented with the memorial trophy Sunday at St. Andrews Church in North Vancouver, following a recital of scholar- ship winners. Also recognized for receiv- ing the top scores in their grade level on the North Shore were piano students: Benjamin Woo (Grade 1), Jessica Chan (Grade 4) and Rozalyn Chok (Grade 5), all students of Dizaa Marr; Sasha Nielsen (Grade 2) and Michael Harris (Grade 10), students of Aline Banno; Maya Nesbit (Grade 3), who studies with Kimberley Haniey-Senyshyn; _ Kristin ERINA Nesbitt per- formed An _ Austrian Dance by Burgmulier at “the Lucilie Little Memorial Award Recital, held last Sunday at St Andrews Church in North Vancouver.
