_ Herb Society takes root

THE CANADIAN Herb
Society (CHS) has its offi-
cial Jaunch this month.

The national organization
was formed “to provide accu-
rate information, education,
networking and representation
for all those with an interest in
herbs,” said the co-chair of the
society’s ad-hoc steering com-
mittee, Joyce Shackleton.

“With the growing public

interest in both cultivated and
wild-crafted herbs, the need
for a unifying national herb
society has become more and
more apparent,” added the
West Vancouver resident.

The CHS hopes to provide
a focus for the herbal commu-
nity by holding regular meet-
ings with guest speakers, pub-
lishing a quarterly newsletter
and sponsoring events and

The society’s first formal
meeting is Sunday, March 17,
2 p.m. in the Flora) Hail at
VanDusen Botanical Garden,
5251 Oak St., Vancouver.

There will be a lecture on
the various aspects of herbal
use, from lore to science, and a
panel discussion.
