A LIONS Gate Hospital campaign to
purchase a laser for the urology
department received a welcome
$35,000 kick-off recently.

The local donor, who didn’t want
his name publicized, gave the money
in gratitude for the care he received
from the hospital's doctors, said
Sheilah Grant, the Lions Gate

Hospital Foundation’s director of
developinent.

She said the laser campaign has
generated about $100,000 in dona-
lions on the way to a $350,000 goal.
“We've still got a long way to go but
we've had an excellent response,” she
said,

The laser will be used in the treat-

ment of enlarged prostates, which
usually ogcur in.men over 55, Grant
said. ws "

The laser treatment will cause less:
discomfort and be less intrusive than
current surgery techniques, and allow
a much quicker recovery time, she
added. Three urologists at the hospital
have already had training.
