What really turns my crank when September shows up, is that finally everyone'is once more on the job. Holidays are over. The world is serious again, and Things Get Done. Summer’s so sloppy. Even as a child J missed the disci- pline of standard days with an understood pattern. When that story about a possible recon- struction of the school-year came out I let out a mild elder- ly “hurrah.” It takes weeks for a lot of children to get it together after two months of slack attention. Anyway, children are no longer needed to help with the crops and the harvesting, which is how that two-month hiatus originated. There, I’ve unloaded that piece of beef. Now I've got a bunch of information about things that need your attention in the next while. This, to me, is really the start of the New Year, when all the organizations come togeth- er again and everyone’s got a project. We'd got our bill, just the other day, and the long-dis- tance charges were whew! It’s true my husband’s work requires that he talk to people all over the continent, but he surely doesn’t do business in Iran, and there it was, nearly 12 dollars’ worth of phone- call. I made out the cheque, minus the 12 bucks, but of course I must square it with the phone people and the near- est office I know of is in Capilano Mall. Off I went on the bus, clutching my reproach. When it was my turn, I showed it to the clerk and braced myself to do battle. Instead she said, “All right, we’ ll erase it, no problem.” Then she said, “You didn’t have to come down here, next time just phone. We’ll charge this back to the Iran number. People do this all the time, pick a number out of the book.” Can you beat it? But I’m glad to save you a trip when it happens to you. OK. Now for my serious fall list for self-improvement, along with self-satisfaction and plain selflessness. Lots of “self” in there —- you just choose what’s your bag. This venture at Lions Gate Hospital will be good news for folks with cancer. They’re starting a program about personal enhancement for men and women suffering the ravages of that disease. Between the middle of September and early June next year, they’re in cahoots with the CCTFA Foundation to offer two-hour sessions. once a month, on how to deal with geniling one’s appearance and bocsting one’s self-esteem. COTFA stands for the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Assuciation, Lis Daryl Wing Pharmacist If your doctor's prescription requires a dose of 1/2 tablet, it is sometimes difficult to split the tablets evenly. if it crumbies, it's best to throw out the crumbs and start again. We have pill-splitters for sale in our store that will split that piil in half evenly or we will do it and the course is called “Look Good-Feel-Better.” You know the truth of that your own self. The men’s classes aren't as long as the two hours for women, for obvious reasons. It doesn’t apply only to patients of Lions Gate. Both Shoppers Drug and London Drugs are helping, and you can too by encouraging a friend or rela- tive to try it. The number is 984-5753 to register.
