It is our belief that music is an essential part of every childs education and children must be provided with high quality instructional methods and well-trained instructors from the very first lessons. “All the methods used are widely respected and our highly qualified instructors are trained to stimulate and challenge your child. Je Kodaly-Orff from 3-/years Ja Kodaly-Orff combines the approaches to music that were developed by two European composers, Carl Orff and Zoltan Kodaly. This method encourages “group music making through singing, playing instruments and moving to music. The natural rhythms of children’s rhymes and chants are used. Through the use of creative games, songs and ‘movement z activities, the childzen develop skills such _* as singing in tune, ~ learning melodic’. ‘intervals and rhythm | "patterns, reading” music; taking music dictation, recognizing musical: forms, and playing |”. instruments. From Pre-School through Grade 2, instrumental ensemble work is. performed on non- pitched percussion (e.g. Xylophone and glockenspiel). Recorder is incorporated in Grade 2. Guitar is available for children aged seven and older. Beginner as well as intermediate, and advanced classes are offered. Notes 1. Kodaly-Orff classes are 60 minutes. Guitar classes vary in length. 2. The final 15 minute portion of each class is: planned for flexibility. It can be used as extended teaching time, or for parent observation and consultation time. 3.’Most materials for early levels are included in fees. Instruments'and additional materials that may be required in Grade 2 and Guitar are not included. Teachers will advise parents directly concerning tnese. Columbia University i in New York, * The Pace group approach to piano and risianship emphasizes: “'« musical pattern and contour ir reading ° multiple key approach * use of the entire keyboard immediately * peer teaching and group dynamics Kinder-Keyboard, 6 and 7 ‘years, This is a preparatory program in which the children receive two 45-minutes group lessons per week in groups of four to six and will naturally progress to. Pace Level 1 the following September. ~ Levels I to 6, 8 to 17 years. | Children receive two 45 minute periods of instruction per week. One lesson is in a group of six to eight children in which they learn - basic harmony, ear training, technique, sight-reading, LopNe * Community Choir transposing and creative work at the piano. The other 45 minute class in the week is a lesson emphasizing repertoire. Note New Kinder-Keyhboard and Level 1 classes for Fall 1993 are currently fully enrolled.
