The delicate curving bridge, with vermillion rails, that slopes over the lily pond immediately the attention of the viewer, as does the Japanese rep- lica teahouse in behind. These are two manmade ele- ments that are used in conjunction with the Oriental garden philoso- pay, for dramatic effect. For more than 2,500 years the Chinese garden as an art form has existed, and has influenced gardens of Japan and Europe. These gardens incorporate a balance between fight and dark, Pollenex humidifiers seen as possible fire hazards THE CANADIAN Stand- ards Asscciation and Dee Van Enterprise Ltd. are warning owners of ‘*Pollenex’’ steam humidifiers, marked on the back as model WJ{150CR, date coded from 46 to 08, 1989, tc stop using them immediately because they pose a potential fire hazard. Investigation cf several failed humidifiers has revealed that the one-shot thermal protector did not operate, causing the units to overheat. The overheating causes the plastic enclosure material to catch fire. Owners of humidifiers with the above model number should con- tact Jeff Gentry, Associated Mills, 165 North Canal Si., Chicago, H- linois 60606. Telephone: (312) 454-5400. The twisted Japanese rock maples have always drawn visitors’ attention. Because of their low and twisted shape they could pass for ‘‘bonsai,’’ but grow naturally this way. These trees are between 60 and 85 years old, and were donated to North Vancouver City by its sister city of Chiba in Japan. Other plantings in the garden include pines, Wisteria Pieris, Iris, blossoms of the Camelia Sasan- qua, and several varieties of bam- boo. Take a break from your shopp- ing routine and visit the gardens again, which are open year round for your enjoyment. — by Dorothy Foster ¢ Give Her a Gift of Nature -§ Nature Jewalry Birdbaths Nature Books Audio/Video Tapes "Your Backyard Birdfeeding Specialist” 3879 Oak St., Vancouver Mon.-Fri. 9:30 - 6 Nature T-shirts Birdfeeders Hummingbird Feeders Windchimes Garden Sculptures 736-2676 Sat. 9:30 - 5 Sun. 12:00 - BUILDING is COMING DOWN EVERYTHING MUST GO!
