recommended by the guidebooks.
We took the bus and got left off
just on the perimeters of China-
town —- the Skid Row and Red
Light District.

Want to see living porn? Get
off the bus too soon. Lori freaked
— down-and-outers make her gag.

Tip: Groceries cost the earth in
Waikiki but the fresh food in
Chinatown is worth the 60¢ ride.

Next tip: Look for the Liberty
House ‘‘Penthouse’’ outlet near
Merchant Square on the fringes of
Chinatown. There are other dis-
count outlets as well and you'll
shop for cheap. Try the corner of
North King and Nu*uanu,

Lunch? Try O’Toole’s at the
corner of Merchant and Nw’uanu.
Not great food, but decent and
well-known. They make a reason-
able bean soup and B.L.T.'s.

It’s respectable, but I'd have
sooner searched out a place in
Chinatown. Lori would sooner
have jumped off the nearby
Cruise Ship Terminal dock. 1 was
docked there last June and had no
idea how close we were to 2 great
walk.

THE FOLLOWING is a selection
of many volunteer opportunities
available from North Shore
Community Services (NSCS).

AN UPHOLSTERER is wanted
to refinish and upholster a few
chairs for a counselling centre.
The hours are Nexible.

INSPECTORS are needed to
inspect, change and wash approx-
imately 50 pillow cases for a pre-
natal class once per month. The
volunteer must wash aii of the
Pillow cases at home. This is a
great project for Girl Guides and
Boy Scouts. The hours are flexi-
ble.
A FRIENDLY and retiabie of-
fice clerk is needed for reception
duties, answering phones and reg-
istering courses and light typing.
The hours are flexible.

A SOCIABLE, organized per-
son is needed to operate the
mobile shoppers cart at a seniors
lodge. The position involves sell-
ing candy, cookies and fresh fruit
to seniors. The hours are from 10
a.m. to noon on Wednesdays.

A PATIENT, KIND person is
needed to walk with residents of a
seniors jodge, in the extensive

How | hate roaming through
stores, malls etc! My daughter
loves the shops and we did Ala
Moana Mall twice.

That was twice too often for
me, but Lori got bitten by the
buybug which is why we spent so
much time paying duty. I picked
out my dream of a raincoat at
Christian Dior — the price tag
was close to $4,000 U.S. so I got
wet instead.

Skip the food mart on the
ground floor. I’ve had bad meals
and rotten meals. Guess which
one we picked up down there?

if you’re planning a visit to
Hawaii, skip the month of March.
It’s normal for the trade winds to
