ONE MONTH from today, the Meech Lake Accord will
either be grudgingly ratified by the holdout provinces or it
will fait — and fail miserably. Originally approved by the
provinces and federal government more than (wo years
ago, the accord’s outlook now looks bleak. Manitoba,
New Brunswick and Newfound!and want to amend the
accord to include, among other things, Senate reform.

Meanwhile Quebec’s Premier Robert Bourassa says he
cannot accept any changes. Last weekend Lucien
Bouchard, former environment minister and the federal
government’s Quebec lieutenant, resigned from cabinet.
The resignation, which may be followed by more Quebec
MPs, strikes yet another blow against the accord.

Gary Stephen Turner was
sentenced to one day in jail after
‘the 35-year-old Port Coquitlam
man pleaded guilty to failing to
appear for a Sept. 13, 1989 court
date. .

$100 after the 29-year-old Port
Alberni man pleaded guilty to
possession of marijuana in connec-

tion with an April 21 drug seizure.

put on probation for one year after
