18 - Wednesday, November 16, 1988 - North Shore News MAILBOX NSWC rezoning opposed Dear Editor: We oppose the prcposed rezon- ing of North Shore Winter Ciub property to construct a high-rise apartment building. We feel quite strongly that the approval of this project will have a negative effect on our neighborhood in three ways. First, we specifically chose the area to avoid the concrete towers of the West End. We value our view of the harbor and Vancouver, a view which would vanish with the construction of the proposed Understanding appreciated Dear Editor: I wish to thank North Van- couver District Mayor Baker, alderman Crist and alderman Gadsby for their understanding of the concerns of the residents of Norgate Park, regarding the rezon- ing application and proposed con- dominium project on our borders. It is most regrettable that the remainder of the District of North apartment. We have worked hard over 17 years to improve our home to take advantage of these views. It is obvious to us that people have already voted with their wallets in saying the North Shore Winter Club is no longer a viable or necessary facility. Why should the local residents be forced to shoulder the cost in terms of lost views? Second, we feel the approval of this project will lower property values in the area. The height of the structure and the resulting higher population densities have Vancouver Council have failed to consider the point of view express- ed by the great majority of the property owners in this area. I am certain that if they were threatened by similar developments being planned in their neighborhoods they would be more sympathetic. Mrs. Michael Steede North Vancouver ‘Prove it, Mr. Cook!’ Dear Editor: In a recent letter to this column, Mr. Chuck Cook, MP, stated that Canadian health and social pro- grams would not be affected by the Free Trade Agreement. So prove it, Mr. Cook. And please quote the chapter of the pact in which it is printed for all to tead. Aiso quote the section, sub- section, paragraph and sub- paragraph — just so there will be no mistake. There are thousands of peopk in North Vancouver who are awaiting your proof -—- and thousands of votes may depend on your answer. L. Whiting North Vancouver If you want to: e Stop the Free Trade Deal e Clean up Howe Sound Pollution a vote for NDP in Capilano/Howe Sound only helps the Tories. VOTE LIBERAL IN CAPILANO - LIBERAL HOWE SOUND 1402 Marine Drive, West Vancouver 922-7821 = Authorized by R. Gardiner, Official agent for John Pozer : no place in a residential area. The introduction of an addi- tional 250 vehicles competing for access to an already choked Moun- tain Highway and Keith Road in- tersection will also reduce the qual- ity of life in the area. Third, we see this proposal reducing park, recreation and wilderness areas. Again, we chose to live on the North Shore for the enjoyment of the mountains and associated natural environments.
