bP eyo 22 - Wednesday, May 20, 1987 - North Shore News FATHERS CLUBS are forming and are active in the Greater Van- couver area. Membership is free and available to ail fathers, step- fathers, foster fathers, single fa- thers and grandfathers. Fathers Clubs are non-profit, community-oriented groups ad- dressing the need of children io have paternal influence in their lives. The philosophy is that the investment of time and energy by a father in his children will pay divi- dends for generations. Each father and his children are matched with seven other fathers who have children of a similar ager. Each father, in turn, ar- ranges and plans one group activi- ty — such as kite flying, swimm- ing, picnics. The commitment each father makes is to participate in each activity. The activities are to be arranged for a convenient time, every second weekend. Through this format each father sets an example of leadership and participation in the community while his chiidren enjoy the benefit of social group. activities, the groups says. , As the clubs grow, it hopes to make available parenting workshops, guest speakers, lec- tures and presentations to all members of the community.
