8 - Friday, May 10, 1985 - North Shore News Mailbox Three cheers for Margie Goodman. Dear Editor: Three cheers for school trustee Margie Goodman re her support (reported in the April .14 ‘‘News’’) of the government’s: restraint pro- gram. She correctly ‘stated that there is “no magic money tree in Victoria’ and that the extra money for which some trustees are pressing would be largely “put into the teachers’ pockets.”’ Iam sure there are a lot of hard working, dedicated teachers out there who do not support the policies and demands of the B.C.T.F., and who do not feel that they must have yet another raise. Dr. Regan proposed that teachers (and | suggest this should also apply to principals, superintendants and other people in the up- per echelon) should instead accept a pay cut of 5%. The money saved could then be used to buy whatever school equipment is needed to en- sure Our young people get a proper education. It might also save jobs of teachers who might otherwise be Jet 20. This same attitude of restraint should apply to employees covered under the. B.C.G.E.U. When the deficit is wiped out, then, perhaps, we might again think of wage in- creases. It is disgusting that a few people who rule a ty- rannical union are pressing for pay increases in the face of the current unempiu:: ment problem and our huge deficit. Finally, ‘‘angry trustee”’ Reverend Roy Dungey should understand that his- tory will record how a lot of gullible people have been taken in, George Hamilton, Dixie Hamilton, North Vancouver
