Why in the world do you want to DO something with “a perfectly. enjoyable relationship?” But, if you must DO some- thing with it, why not enjoy it to. the hilt until such a time © it is no longer enjoyable? You say you KNOW it has no future. Are you sure of anything that has? If yesterday it was “a perfectly enjoyable relationship” and, today it still is, then, yesterday you could have said that it had a future. Searching for the muse QUESTION: I guess you could say that I am a rather creative person. I am painting and writing poetry and trying my hand at playing the flute and writing a bit of music for the flute. I have a job that allows me.a pretty good living and time lor my creative activities. Hut here’s my problem. I go Qt ESTION: looms in the staff of the North Shore News. And then along comes Noel Wright, your Editor-in-Chief and says, in the July 11 issue, “What the world needs now is NOT love.” What do you say to that, Hayden? Or have you already said it to Mr. Editor? STE‘VART: No, I have not said t to the Editor yet. Alu! ugh I wish I had. Let's not .cep him out of context whil: we talk this over. You see, what he said was: “What the world needs now isn't love. What the grey, faltering Canadian world of Allan MacEachen’= and Gerald Boucy needs to day is some gcet-up-and-go, to-hell- with-doom-and-gloom SPI- RIT.” Then later on in his Sunday Brunch picce, he says, “That's the answer to today’s blucs. SPIRIT ...” What I would have said to Noe! Wright had I said anything, would have been, “Atta boy Noc!!” You see what the world needs now is not an anemic, wishy-washy, pathetic love which kceps saying (from a distance) “I love you” No, what the world necds now is a love that issucs into action. The world necds love that LIVES. What is needed now is the sort of risk-taking involvement, for the sake of humanity, that ts most likely to prompt the old world to Practise QUESTION: What & the Love that tells about expoctations? STEWART: HAVE NO SPECIFIC BX PEC TATIONS, BUT RATHER. ABUNDANT EXPEC - TANCY. It’s a tough one. Needs Iots of practice. Don't get tied up with how long. the future is, or what changes you must make to allow it to have a future. Get chummy with the here and now. Today you have a perfectly enjoyable relation- ship. Isn't that great! dry. My creativity goes flat. There are times when I have not the slightest teensy bit of interest in painting or writing or music. It just goes away. A real themselves produce even when they don’t feel like it, and ciaim that is the best way. Others are quite content to await the whim of the muse and create during the times they feel creative.
