B.C. brokers offer
“TOP’ service with
temporary permits

WITH ALL the recent
discussion on auto in-
surance costs, more
motorists have benefited
from time spent discussing
their needs with Autoplan
agents,

{nsurance agencies selling ICBC
Autoplan coverages are indepen-
dent brokerages that provide gen-
eral insurance for homeowners
and businesses. Some offer auto
insurance from private companies
competing with !CBC collision
and comprehensive coverages.

Changes over the past six
taonths have also made B.C.
brokers the source for special
licensing and registration services
formerly available only at provin-
cial government Motor License
Offices.

Any of over
agents in B.C. now process new
and used vehicle registrations as
well as those for rebuilt and
home-made vehicles. They can
aiso handle applications for
“*Ham’’ radio license plates and
personalized ‘‘vanity" plates.

Your neighborhood broker can
heip with estate transfers and the
transfer and registration of
repossessed vehicles or those being
brought into B.C. from other
provinces.

On Jan. 1, Autoplan agents ad-
ded another new service called
TOP. TOP stands for ‘‘Tem-
porary Operation Permit’? — a
replaceinent for both the old

Temporary Permit and the Tem-
porary Testing and Demonstration
Permit.

The new TOP allows anyone
with a valid driver's licence to
temporarily operate a vehicie or
trailer. They are available at
Autoplan agents’ offices or B.C.
government weigh scales
throughout B.C.

TOP allows vehicle operation 24
hours a day for general use, from
one to 15 days in Canada and the
U.S. Some restrictions apply to
commercial vehicle use of this new
permit.

Basic coverage includes $1 mil-
lion third party liability, no-fault
accident benefits and underinsured
motorist protection. Collision and
comprehensive coverages can be
added.

With many Autoplan- agents
open later in the evening and on
Saturdays and Sundays, B.C.
motorists now have greater access
to these services.
