tart to sell weapons WAL-MART wants its North Shore customers to be uble to purchase rifles at its local store. by Anna Marie D'Angelo News Reporter But some Wal-Mart store employees at Capilano Mall don't want to stock the shelves with hunting rifles and bow and arrows, sources have told the News. The American retail giant took over {22 Woolco stores in Canada earlier this year. Wal-Mart corporate headquar- ters in Bentonville, Arkansas, wants product consistency in all of its stores. The policy includes the sale of guns. But Wal-Mart Canada spokes- man Ed Gould said a “very limited supply” of rifles will be sold in stores which are located “mainly outside” of metropolitan centres. Gould said that he hasn't received any complaints from store employees who are con- cerned about the sale of guns. “We feel our associates (sales staff) are absolutely the most important part to our organization. We fasten very carefully to our associates.” said Gould who works for a public relations company in Toronty which represents Wal- Mart Canada. About eight people at the local Wal-Mart store will be trained to sel] rifles. The guns will be kept in a locked showcase. Gould did not say how many rifles would be on display at the Capilano store. He said restricted weapons, such as handguns, would not be sold. Meanwhile North Vancouver RCMP Superintendent Gil Yard said he doesn't have a problem with the legal sale of guns in the department store. “My feeling is that people kill, not guns,” said Yard. “The greatest majority of guns are owned by legitimate people who take legitimate care in the handling and use of them.” he said. | CJ,, Dr. William Liebenberg Inc.
