In both its lower priced Ports Tradernark line and its Ports In- ternational top line, this design ‘firm focuses on the kind of clothes that it has. always dene best — wearable classics. Nothing but clean-lined sportswear with . colors that can easily slip into most wardrobes. Basics may have never looked better. In the fall: °91 Ports Interna- tional collection, wool crepe, cashmere, luxurious chenille yarn (a major trend in European col- lections which, is a fuzzy novelty yarn that looks very much like pipe-cleaner), mohair, angora and alpaca add iots of texture. The textures are created by the weave of the fabric such as knitted tweeds and boucles, or through the finishing treatments such as trapunto stitching. Opposites attract this fall as contrasting fabrics are combined in one garment. Transparent fabrics are added to opaques, fluid looks are combined with structured ones, sraooth materiats contrasted with roughly textured ones, and serious fabrics are mix- ed with fun looks. Ports knitwear features wools, double knits, superwash lambs wool and French jersey. Specialty knits such as camel hair cables, PORTS INTERNATIONAL and Ports Trademark line separates for fail '91. chenille and lambs wool/angora blends in jersey are also shown. Softness and casual elegance are apparent throughout the fall Sine. Short, clean skirts, and hip-crop- ped, slightly fitted jackets predominate. Colorful wool bou- cle bolero jackets and short black . and white houndstooth checked jackets are paired with curve-ci- inging skirts in the same fabrics. Contrasting fabric accents or . blocking adds a 60s mood, and a haute couture look to the classic shapes. Jacket and coat collars make a statement in terms of their proportions and contrasting fabric treatments. And wonderful but- tons, velvet trims, finished cuffs and lively contrasting pockets add to the couture approach. Blouses have softly draped necklines and feminine French cuffs. A variety of interesting but- tons transform the look of the simple blouse styles that are ascot-tied at the neck. They are paired with classically cut, pleated trousers with side button closures. Sportswear is given new ease with the addition of stirrup pants, a must-have in every wardrobe for fall, drawstring jackets and cashmere separates that are great for autumn weather. Oversized sweaters with leggings, and com- fortable body-skimming layers are also shown with casual elegance in ’ carefully coordinated ensembles. Knits get soft, soft. Knitted chemise dresses, long and short cardigans, -mock turtlenecks and tunics are designed with ottoman trims, trapunto stitching and knit- ted throws. Crenna’s auick s CRAFT AND fashion market «.
